Funds from the Colorado Latino Age Wave were awarded to ensure that Boulder County’s efforts address the three goals:
- Design and implement a replicable and scalable community driven, asset-based Promotores model.
- Train Latino older adults and their families on how to access culturally appropriate services that leverage their assets.
- Empower the Latino elderly to communicate and advocate for themselves.
The Boulder County Promotores Project is a strength-based approach to building connections between the Latino community and service providing agencies. The Boulder County Promotores Project will also bring the issue of cultural competency to the forefront, creating a dialogue and systems changes in the community to better serve and include the diverse populations of Boulder County.
Great success has been reached during the planning phase for tis innovative project. We have commitments from over 12 service-providing agencies and gained trust with numerous Latino elders.
A Promotora/Promotor is a community health promoter, health advocate, and organizer.
They are trusted because they are members of the community in which they live and work. |
